Neglected and Abused Dogs Rescued from Brutal Dog-Fighting Operation in Texas
A team from the SPCA of Texas discovered a heartbreaking scene at a suspected dog-fighting operation in a position Springs, Texas in August. Dozens of puppies were left tied up with hefty chains without food or water. Rescuer Madeline Yeaman saw fourteen dogs, all jumping and attempting her attention, except for one.
Gwen Stefani: The Dog That Survived Death’s Door
Emaciated and severely dehydrated, Gwen Stefani was found knocking at death’s door with a large collar clamped to her neck and connected to a heavy chain tied to an ancient car axle. She had no shelter from the hot Texas sun and was in such poor health that she became too weak to even move. But the SPCA of Texas did not give up on her. They immediately took her in and provided her with the care she needed.
From Starving and Helpless to Happy and Healthy
Gwen’s first day of treatment began with a hose-off of her broken, wounded, flea-infested skin. She received a blood transfusion, and of course, water and food. As days went by, Gwen began to pick up her spirit until she felt like a dog again. She went from being torpid and helpless to wiggly and happy. Now, she delights in walking around outside and getting showered with love and attention.
