Victor urged Cole to stay away from his daughter, but will the Newman patriarch follow through?
Once again, Victor from *The Young and the Restless* is stepping into one of his children’s love lives.
Poor Victoria has never experienced a relationship without her father’s constant interference.
The Mustache had an active role in Victoria’s relationships with Ryan, Cole, J.T., Billy, and Nate. No one appears to be suitable for Victor’s firstborn.
To his credit, Victor is aware that his daughter has a propensity to ignore obvious warning signs when she falls in love with someone.
Who could forget her terrible love affair with Ashland, which nearly cost her life and Victor Enterprises?
Cole Defies Victor
Fast forward to the present, and Victoria is falling back in love with Cole. When they discovered Claire was the daughter they thought had died, the two naturally reconnected.
And for a time, Victor appeared to approve of the two rekindling their affections for each other after years apart.
However, everything changed when Cole and Michael “betrayed” Victor by compelling him to choose Jordan.
Victor has since deemed Cole untrustworthy, and he has urged the writer to avoid both Victoria and Claire. Cole has been pretty stubborn toward Victor.
In fact, in the episode of The Young and the Restless, Cole brazenly showed up at Newman Enterprises and invited Victoria out to lunch in front of him.
When she excused herself to get her luggage, Victor spent no time chastising Cole and insisting that he stay away from his daughter.
Cole dismissed Victor, and in the same episode, he treated Victoria to dinner and even spent the night together.
Then, in the episode, an empowered Cole comes to Victor’s office and informs him that he has no control over his or Victoria’s lives.
Victor responds that Cole isn’t good enough for her. Cole goes on to argue that he makes her happy, and it is none of Victor’s concern whether she and Cole are together or not.
The discussion between the two men continues to heat up (while providing us with a few laughs) until Victor says something quite fascinating.
Cole reiterates that he has affection for Victoria and that the two already have a bond as Claire’s parents.
Of course, Victor is alluding to Cole’s absence from Genoa City for years, allegedly at Oxford, working as a writer and professor.
Love or Power Play
With that stated, Victor makes a valid argument. What has Cole been doing, and has everything been “above board”?
We may envision Victor being so frustrated with Cole’s resistance that he orders his squad to investigate the writer’s history.
Cole appears to be a boy scout right now, but in a soap opera twist, Victor may find Cole has a significant secret he’s been keeping from Victoria, which might jeopardize their budding romance.
Could Cole have a gambling debt, and Victor construct the picture that Cole just wants to be with Victoria for her money?
Or may Victor discover that Cole was dismissed from Oxford for some sinister reason, and that’s why he’s so eager to come to Genoa City?
Or is it possible that Victor discovers nothing and fabricates something to undermine Cole’s connection with Victoria?
While the answers to these concerns are unknown, we believe Cole should keep his guard up because he has become an adversary of The Great Victor.
