Friday October 18, 2024: Today on Young and Restless, The show marks the 30th anniversary of Michelle Stafford’s first appearance as Phyllis Summers with a featured episode.
Thursday’s recap: After accusing Victor of corrupting his son, Jack has a heated public confrontation with Diane, while Lucy learns that someone is setting up Daniel.

At Chancellor Lookout, Summer informs Daniel, Phyllis, and Lucy that Daniel needs to hire a lawyer.
Phyllis encourages her son to stay strong, assuring him that they’ll overcome this. She reminds him of her unwavering determination and believes none of them should give up.
Lucy breaks down in tears as the siblings hold hands with their mother.

They reassure the teen, explaining that their goal is to protect her father. She expresses concern that he might be arrested.
They speculate about who would want to frame him, and Phyllis recalls Sharon warning Daniel to control Lucy as her patience was running thin.

She suggests that to her kids but Daniel finds it a stretch. Phyllis isn’t so sure.
Nobody knew she was at Daniel’s place until now. And she concocted some story about how Heather was afraid of her and then suddenly, all this evidence shows up at his place?

Daniel thinks his mom just wants to hang this on Sharon because of her past but Phyllis says that’s not it. She knows what Sharon’s truly capable of.
Phyllis flashes back to a time in the past when Sharon confronted Phyllis about sleeping with Nick.
She remembers telling Sharon that Ashley should have been with Faith and then Sharon shoves her into a chocolate fountain. Phyllis gets a face full of chocolate and throws it in Sharon’s face.

They fight and then Phyllis recalls Sharon throwing her down the stairs.
Then there’s what she did to Cameron Kirsten. Summer argues that she did that out of self-defence.
Phyllis knows but she’s capable. She doesn’t know her motive though.

Maybe she came to the condo to apologize and they could have gotten into a fight. It could have been a “tragic accident.”
Daniel tries to work through it. Why would she frame him? Because he got into an accident with Cassie? He thinks his mom is overreacting.
She gets it, knowing what she’s done in her own past. Lucy questions her father and Daniel says her grandma has taken things to the extreme before. Phyllis asks if she wants to know more.

She has a few stories but insists she’s done them to protect people.
“Let’s start with the dead octopus,” she says, telling Lucy her grandpa Paul made a mistake by marrying Christine so she put a dead octopus in their bed.

Summer is shocked. Lucy laughs and Daniel purses his lips.
She spins it saying it came from her determination.
She says you have to get creative about it.

Phyllis recalls going undercover as a maid.

Phyllis turned herself into a woman with a blonde wig and a man.
CBS
The kids haven’t heard these stories. Phyllis knows.

She didn’t tell them out of fear of them judging her.
Daniel says they know she did her best.
CBS
She tears up and agrees. She just wanted to be a mom with a normal family but she made mistakes. It started with Danny.
Daniel says she stalked him but Phyllis says she just happened to be in the vicinity of him all the time. “Stalking,” Summer says.
Phyllis thinks back to the 80s when she and Danny were married and calling them a family.

He denied it and told her they had one night together and she got what she wanted. After Daniel got sick, it changed them.
She remembers them discussing it and that Phyllis said prayers really worked. She flashes to Danny asking her to marry him.

Lucy thinks it’s sweet and asks what happened. Phyllis stalls. Daniel encourages her to tell the truth.
She reveals she loved Danny but he didn’t love her so she lied and manipulated and Cricket told him that Danny wasn’t his biological child. There was a custody battle and divorce. She lost.
She recalls asking Danny to see Daniel at some point and how she didn’t know what he looked like.

She cried to him that she had an empty space inside her. She missed her son. Lucy finds this so sad.
Phyllis flashes back to meeting Daniel for the first time. He felt a connection to her and introduced himself.

He soon realized she was his mom and she admitted it was so. The kids smile and Phyllis says she likes to think she’s changed, matured and grown. Because of her kids.

Daniel suggests she tell Summer’s story. She says she and Jack weren’t each other’s types and then flashes back to telling Jack he used to be fun and saying he didn’t know what he was missing.
They didn’t work on paper she says but they had fun. She flashes to disrobing and showing him his Christmas present.
CBS
He picked her up and brought her to their room before she flashed to another time when they let it all out on the table.
Jack said at least they knew the truth, and then they made out.
Another time, he begged her to stay with him, to marry him.
CBS
Another time, he professed his love and gave her a present that had her speechless.
Phyllis couldn’t conceive and said it was a blow to Jack though he acted as though it was fine.

Diane showed up with Kyle and that’s what ripped them apart.
She remembers yelling at Jack about it and wanting answers.
She was shocked to hear it was Diane and then remembers them crying as she asked Jack if he ever thought about the child they lost.

Jack said it almost killed her and Phylis says if they had it, it would have forced them to overcome the obstacles. She wanted to give him a baby. It wasn’t meant to be, much like them.
They agreed they had a glorious ride and Phyllis tells her granddaughter she loved him.

They ended it and she started things up with Nick. She flashes to him making out with her in her condo and telling Nick she felt as though she could tell him anything.
They kissed in bed and Daniel says this was after the accident with Cassie.

Phyllis says she was lost and Nick was grieving. Summer says she may never have been born if it wasn’t for her dad’s grief. Phyllis denies it.
She admits she didn’t know if Jack or Nick was the father. Lucy asked what she did.
CBS
Phyllis spoke with her bestie, Michael. Michael said both men have great DNA and knew she’d be a terrific mother.
She assumed she’d do it alone but Michael said he and Lauren would help.
CBS
Phyllis called him amazing and he in turn said she was the strongest person he knew.
She recalls marrying Nick and him calling her Mrs. Newman. She liked that.
Lucy asks what happened next and her grandma says then came the most terrifying night of her life.

The ice storm. She and Jack got stuck in an elevator. She flashes back. They were sweaty and thought this was karma for them.
She gave birth in the elevator and Sharon switched the paternity test, “Because she hates me so much.”

Phyllis thinks she and Nick were so good together but it didn’t last. She asks what Lucy thinks of her granny. Lucy calls her “kinda awesome.”
She did some awful things and she’s a different kind of mom but one that will do anything for them, just like her mom.
They embrace. Phyllis isn’t sure what she’ll do about Sharon but she’ll prove her son’s innocence. She’ll gather information and will use it to change Chance’s mind since she assumes that he thinks Daniel is innocent. They share a group hug.

“What happened?” Traci asks.

“Jack asked me to move out tonight,” Diane explains.

“We’ve got something,” a cop tells Chance as he examines a children’s drawing.

“What exactly is this evidence the police have against you?” Danny asks by videophone.
CBS
“Let’s just say it’s solid enough I’m expecting a knock at my door any moment,” Daniel says.
