The story of Marco is one of hope and resilience in the face of cruelty and neglect. When we found Marco lying on the floor with hopeless eyes and a large piece of skin peeled off his back, our hearts shattered into pieces. It was clear that he had been mistreated for a long time, but we were determined to help him.
We transferred Marco to Tehran for treatment immediately, where he received the care and attention he desperately needed. Although he was in a lot of pain, he remained quiet throughout the journey, showing incredible strength and resilience. Upon arrival, he had a consultation with a vet, who identified several issues that needed to be addressed.
First, the priority was given to Marco’s right eye, which had high pressure and was slightly dehydrated. Next, his stress ulcer caused by a severe fungal infection was treated, followed by the treatment of old fractures. Marco’s progress was slow but steady, and he started eating hot food after a few days of treatment, which greatly improved his overall health.
To make the treatment easier, we shaved Marco’s fur, allowing us to more easily clean and dress his wounds. After a few weeks of treatment, Marco’s ulcer had almost fully healed, and the rotten skin was likely to be gone soon. He even took his first bath and was due to be infertile in a few days.
Throughout his recovery, Marco never lost his optimism or his belief in humans. Despite the cruelty he had suffered in the past, he remained trusting and loving, and quickly made friends with the other animals at the sanctuary. His life had turned a new page, filled with happiness and love, and we were thrilled to see him thrive in his new environment.
The story of Marco serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion and care for all animals, no matter their circumstances. We must do our part to protect and care for those who cannot protect themselves, and give them the love and support they need to heal and thrive. Marco’s journey is a testament to the power of resilience and the transformative power of love, and we should all strive to follow his example.
