By working with Shane Donovan, Steve plans to fast-track the DNA analysis, explaining the involvement of Clyde Weston and the need for urgency.
Abigail and Chad’s Return and Suspicious Engagement
When Abigail and Chad return from Paris and announce their engagement, Steve pulls JJ Deveraux into his plan.
JJ, who has his own doubts about “Abigail,” is on board immediately, especially since his mother, Jennifer Deveraux, had been feeding his suspicions.
JJ even uses his role as the wedding officiant as a cover for their investigation.
Collecting DNA Evidence
Steve and JJ collect DNA samples from glasses that the fake Abigail has used, as well as from each of the DiMera children.

Shane handles the legal aspects of the covert DNA testing. If the results confirm that “Abigail” is an imposter, Shane will move forward with warrants and arrests.
He’s also collaborating with Rafe Hernandez, who is catching up on the case after being attacked while investigating Abigail’s grave.
