Tootsie was a little and frangible dog who survived a dog meat truck. She weighed only 2.5 kg and was suffering from an ear bacterial infection and systemic skin mite infection. When rescuers found her, the first thing they did was to shave her for skin treatment.
Unfortunately, Tootsie was also battling distemper, which left her weak and unable to stand due to degenerative spinal disease and bone spurs in her spine.
Despite receiving treatment for her distemper, Tootsie’s condition didn’t improve much, and her spine and hind legs remained stiff. She had to start taking pain medication and undergo acupuncture treatment three times a week, as well as daily leg exercises. Although she was barely eating and lethargic, Tootsie never gave up fighting for her life.
Finally, Tootsie started eating more, and her rescuers were hopeful that she would recover. However, the pain continued to worsen, and Tootsie’s rescuers could see it was time to let her go. They had given her comfort, safety, yummy food, and lots of care, but they couldn’t give her a real home.
They were heartbroken when Tootsie passed away, as she had spent her whole life in awful conditions. Rest in peace, sweet baby. You will never be forgotten.
