On November 4th, we received Phoenix from the animal protection office. He had been found with one leg chained to a tree, and was severely emaciated – it was clear he had gone without food for weeks. When he arrived at our shelter, he was still terrified and afraid of humans, noises, and unfamiliar objects. It was clear that Phoenix had likely been abused in his past.

Despite being given food, Phoenix would still only trust Maria – the rescuer who had brought him in. However, the next day, he was able to eat a little when we walked away. He still lived in his own area, afraid of the world around him. However, with love and support from our community, Phoenix started to make progress.

As he gained weight and began to feel more comfortable, he even made a new friend. He became more active, going outside for sunshine for the first time. As he continued to gain weight and heal, Phoenix became more and more adorable.

Now, 6 weeks after being rescued, Phoenix is finally able to enjoy his lovely new home. We are so happy to see him thriving and enjoying his new life. Despite the horrors he endured, Phoenix has shown us all that with love and care, it is possible to overcome even the most traumatic experiences.
