In August 2021, our animal rescue organization received a call about a little puppy who was abandoned in Campinas-SP, Brazil. The caller told us that the puppy had been beaten with a broom handle by a drunk man and left to die. We knew we had to act fast, so we brought the little girl, whom we later named Pérola, to our vet.
Pérola was not only terrified when we first found her, but she also had a head trauma from the previous attack. Our first priority was to calm her down and give her the care she needed to recover. The next day, Pérola began to show her appreciation to her rescuers with kisses and hugs, but she was still too weak to leave the special room we had prepared for her.
We left a toy with her to help lift her spirits while she recovered. After a few days, Pérola’s head trauma began to improve, and we were able to give her a final check-up before taking her back to our shelter.
Two weeks later, Pérola was adopted into her new forever home. It was heartwarming to see how much she had healed and how happy she was to have a family who loved her. We were grateful to have been a part of Pérola’s journey and to have helped her find a second chance at life.
