Snoopy, a blind dog weighing less than 1.8 kg, was discovered in a pitiful state curled up on the side of the road. When I first laid eyes on him, I couldn’t believe that a dog in such a condition was left alone to fend for himself. His body was only skin and bones, and he was unable to walk. My heart sank as I approached him, but I knew that I had to act fast. Without hesitation, I wrapped him in a blanket and rushed him to the nearest animal hospital.

Throughout the journey, I kept a watchful eye on Snoopy, who remained curled up in the blanket, seemingly unaware of his surroundings. I was unsure whether his weight loss was due to illness or starvation, but I was determined to find out, no matter how long it took.

After a thorough examination, the vet revealed that Snoopy was suffering from end-stage kidney failure, ear infections, and permanent blindness. X-rays confirmed that he had fluid in his lungs and heart edema, and the doctor advised that his illness was incurable, and time was running out.

Snoopy needed a calm, loving, and cuddly living environment so that he could be as happy and comfortable as possible for the rest of his days. Hearing this news was like a bolt from the blue, and I looked at Snoopy with tears in my eyes, wishing I had known him sooner so that things wouldn’t have gone this far.

Snoopy, however, seemed to enjoy being a part of my life. A typical day in Snoopy’s life would involve waking up, exploring the garden, and marking his territory. Then, there were nutritious meals, which he enjoyed surrounded by his newfound family members who protected him and made him feel loved.

Despite his health conditions, Snoopy appeared content, feeling a sense of power and happiness that he never experienced before. It was evident that there is no timeline for love, and it exists anytime, anywhere, and in all circumstances.

Slowly but surely, Snoopy’s weight started to increase, and he was no longer the bag of bones he once was. Every time I appeared, he would get very excited and run over to me, sit on my lap, and look for affection. However, every time he coughed, I felt terrible, wishing I could do more to help him.

I wanted him to stay with me longer as I felt I owed him and needed to make it up to him more. Since Snoopy appeared beside me, my life changed, but our days together were numbered. Every morning, I woke up and pinched myself, thinking it was just a dream that Snoopy was healthy again. But then, miracles were bound to happen, and every moment of suffering was fleeting.

Whether it was for one year, one month, or one day, I promised Snoopy that I would shower him with my love and care for him until the end. I wanted him to stay with me for as long as he could, and I told him, “I love you, Snoopy!”.

Despite Snoopy’s poor health, he taught me a valuable lesson about the power of love and devotion. His resilience and never-give-up attitude left a lasting impression on me. His unwavering spirit inspired me to do more to help dogs like him who are left to suffer alone.

In conclusion, Snoopy’s story is a testament to the strength of the human-animal bond. Despite his disabilities and incurable illnesses, he found love and happiness in the last days of his life. I am grateful for the opportunity to have known and loved Snoopy, and his memory will remain forever etched in my heart.
