It was first discovered on the streets of Texas, USA. This dog, named Pumpkin, has been through a lot in the past. They mocked her: they beat her, starved her, tortured her with a stun gun, and after that they left her on the street to die. A passer-by, seeing a pumpkin on the street, took a picture of it and posted a post on Facebook: “LOL! I’ve seen such burning dogs only in ‘third world’ countries.”
Fortunately, Pumpkin’s photo went viral on the Internet, catching the attention of animal welfare organizations like Austin Pets Alive and Pawsitively Texas. Oddly enough, the passerby’s careless job saved this dog’s life. The volunteers started looking everywhere for the animal and soon found it. The detail that was missing in the photo is the little pumpkin puppy. Both dogs were terribly exhausted, hungry and mutilated by human hands.
The vets immediately began tending to Pumpkin and her puppy, quickly getting them back on all fours. Unfortunately, the puppy did not survive. Difficult conditions further undermined his health. Pumpkin’s health has been personally looked after by the founder of Animal Rescue, Ana Barbosa. Six weeks later, when the abandoned dog’s wounds had fully healed, Kelly Williams adopted her.
The young woman, who already had several dogs, developed a particular sense of percussion. They soon became inseparable friends! Pumpkin’s character has changed: she has become more open, playful and affectionate. Stop being afraid of people. Looking at her now, it is impossible to believe that this is the same dog who once suffered so much.
Pumpkin’s journey from a mistreated and abandoned dog to a beloved pet is a testament to the resilience of animals and the power of compassion and love to heal wounds and transform lives.
