Her concerned owner sought veterinary assistance, leading to a prompt surgical intervention. This extraordinary case highlights the importance of being vigilant about the health of our pets and showcases the expertise and dedication of veterinarians.

Pets are an integral part of many families, providing love, companionship, and sometimes even a few surprises. Ellie-May, a 1-year-old Labrador Retriever from Gnosall, Staffordshire, is no exception. Her gluttonous appetite led her to swallow 11 stones during a walk, an incident that might have cost her life if it were not for her owner’s attentiveness and the expertise of the veterinary staff who treated her.

Upon returning home from their daily walk, Ellie-May’s owner, Robert Price, noticed that she was lethargic and tired. After breakfast, Ellie-May vomited some small stones, prompting Price to take her to the veterinary hospital. Upon arrival, veterinarians conducted an x-ray, revealing numerous large and small stones in Ellie-May’s stomach.

Veterinarian Ellie Chiswell commented on the uniqueness of the case, stating, “We took a new series of x-ray images and found that the dog’s stomach was full of stones.” The veterinary team promptly performed surgery to remove the stones from Ellie-May’s stomach. The procedure went smoothly, and Ellie-May began her recovery process.

Following the surgery, Ellie-May needed several weeks to regain her strength. The first week required gentle exercise, gradually increasing in intensity to help her recover from the surgical wound. Her owner, Robert Price, expressed relief and gratitude for the timely intervention, saying, “Ellie-May is fine now. She swallowed all 11 of them. I discovered seven when she vomited at breakfast. I took her to the hospital for a check-up and found that there were some big stones in her stomach. Fortunately, we discovered it in time, without any serious side effects.”

Labrador Retrievers are known for their active, reliable, loving, and easy-to-train nature. Many people consider them as cherished family members.
