Just over a month and a half ago, Lucky was discovered lying on the side of a road, close to giving up on life. The moment he was picked up by Jesus and taken into caring arms, it became apparent that this dog would need extensive care and treatment to recover from his ordeal.

Lucky was suffering from four severe diseases at the same time – leishmaniasis, ehrlichiosis, anaplasmosis, and the dreadful heartworm disease. Imagine a heart filled with worms, like spaghetti – that’s what Lucky was going through. As treatment began, his condition gradually improved day by day, with noticeable changes in his appearance and a newfound sparkle in his eyes.

When Lucky first arrived, he was practically blind, with dry eyes that suggested possible ophthalmic issues. However, after weeks of treatment, his vision began to return, demonstrating the incredible resilience of this dog.

Lucky’s transformation was nothing short of miraculous, both externally and internally. With a newfound zest for life, he became a happy and grateful dog, eager to embrace each day. But as his caregivers got to know him better, they realized that he had one more problem to overcome.

Lucky was experiencing discomfort in his mouth while eating and was unable to consume food properly. Upon closer inspection, a hard, swollen area was discovered beneath his tongue.

A biopsy was conducted to understand the root cause of Lucky’s eating problems. The results revealed that he had lymphoma, a type of cancer. The caregivers wanted to start treating the cancer immediately, but they had to wait since Lucky was already being treated for four other diseases, and his body might not have been able to handle the additional strain.

Over the past few weeks, Lucky’s condition improved significantly, as he became virtually unrecognizable compared to his initial state. With the four severe diseases now under control, it was time to address the lymphoma.

The cancer was in a difficult location beneath his tongue, making treatment complicated. A CT scan showed no metastasis, but removing the tumor would require cutting away a significant portion of Lucky’s tongue. For a dog, the tongue is a vital organ, and losing it would make it impossible for him to eat or drink, leaving him with no future.

To reduce the size of the tumor without having to remove the entire tongue, Lucky’s caregivers decided to start him on chemotherapy. Unlike humans, dogs do not experience the same side effects from chemotherapy, such as hair loss, fatigue, or vomiting. The hope is that the chemotherapy will shrink the tumor enough for it to be removed while still leaving a functional portion of Lucky’s tongue.

The journey to save Lucky’s life is far from over, but his incredible transformation thus far is a testament to the power of love, dedication, and determination. To help Lucky complete his journey, donations are being sought to fund his cancer treatment and ensure that he receives the best care possible. With the support of kind-hearted individuals, Lucky’s life can be saved, giving him the chance to continue thriving and enjoying each day as a happy, healthy dog.
