Days of Our Lives spoilers and rumors suggest that Konstantin Meleounis wasn’t truly himself during the time when John Black operated as the Pawn.
In fact, there’s speculation that he may not have originated from Greece as a member of the Phantom Alliance—could Konstantin truly be Ilya Petrov?
Who Was Ilya Petrov?
Petrov was a henchman of Stefano DiMera’s who kidnapped Hope Brady for him during the three prisms storyline.
That storyline was recently revisited when Megan DiMera returned, having used the prisms to resurrect Bo Brady.
Petrov was also a sworn enemy of Victor Kiriakis and later was discovered to have been a Soviet spy and a member of the Phanton Alliance.
Petrov was heavily involved in The Pawn storyline as well, and Konstantin was recently seen holding a tarot card with a pagoda.
That card has not been seen since 1985 when Megan used it to brainwash John and turn him into the Pawn for her father, and Petrov brought The Pawn to Salem.
Ilya Petrov
Last Seen In 2016 Petrov was assumed to have been killed by Stefano until he resurfaced in 2016-as John was searching for his true identity, he viewed an ISA computer file on Petrov.
This was when Petrov was discovered to have been a cold war era Soviet agent who defected to the West, and was a teacher at a private school in Vermont.
The school, called “Winterthorne” was a front for training assassins, run by an organization in the Far East called the Phantom Alliance, founded by Yo Ling aka Joseph Bell.
This was the soldier recently revealed to have switched places with John’s birth father Tim Robicheaux in a foxhole; Petrov was revealed to be Yo Ling’s accomplice.
As for Petrov, he disappeared again and presumably rejoined the Phantom Alliance and has not been seen or heard from since.
If Konstantin Meleounis Is Ilya Petrov, Why Doesn’t He Remember?
If Konstantin is really Petrov, why doesn’t he remember John as the Pawn, his memory being apparently triggered?
Well, he has to be at least in his late seventies to eighties, and anything could have happened-a stroke, or even brainwashed himself if he left the Phantom Alliance and retired.
The Greek restaurant could either be his retirement dream or it could go along with a new identity.
But the one thing that cannot be explained is how he has the tarot card used to brainwash John and turn him into The Pawn.
There must be a connection somewhere, and it could be because Konstantin is really Petrov!
