In a fresh interview with Soap Opera Digest, Mark Grossman, who brings Adam Newman to life on the acclaimed CBS series The Young and Restless.

Opens up about a notable change in his character’s demeanor, though it didn’t just happen overnight.

Fans have even pointed out Adam’s increased openness to listening, especially evident in his interactions with his ex, Chelsea, concerning their son, Connor.

Grossman describes it, “It’s pretty out of the ordinary for Adam. He’s known for being stubborn and unyielding, thinking he had to directly connect with his son.

But Chelsea’s insight really opened his eyes to see that maybe that wasn’t the smartest move.

There’s been some growth there, and getting back together with Sally and reigniting that flame has played a big role because she acts as a voice of sanity.

She really helps to pull him back from the brink and offers him a new perspective, which I believe is a major factor in this evolution.”

The Young and the Restless Spoilers: There’s Been A Shift In Adam Newman’s Character

Now, as far as what might have prompted this shift in Adam, Mark has a few theories.

He explained, “It’s a few things. Half of it is on the page, but then the other half is trying to plot it out where you don’t want to just flip a light switch and all of a sudden, you’re agreeing to everything, [and] you don’t have any defense mechanisms.

I always try to make sure that there’s still all that underlying stuff, like wanting to trust people at their word but being skeptical.

Sometimes we get ahead of ourselves and then we realize that somebody else may be right, but sometimes it’s hard to admit that and it takes you a little bit of time to come around.”

I don’t think that should ever go away, but it’s nice when we don’t see that as much and we’re in this period now where he’s trying to be better.

We’re all human beings and we all go through that similar stuff, right? Nobody’s perfect and when people point out things about us and we try to do better or change things, it could be a little clunky.

But that’s what it is to be a human being.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on the CBS network. Check your local listings for times.
