Bold and Beautiful, a staple in daytime television, has been captivating audiences since its premiere in 1987. This 30-minute saga has consistently been a part of CBS’s daytime roster.
As the series approaches its 37th year, there’s a buzz of anticipation. TVLine reports that the network has decided to activate the extension option from the show’s last renewal contract.
The Bold and the Beautiful was renewed for two seasons in March 2022 with the option to include an additional third season. With CBS deciding to use this clause, the soap opera will now run through the 2024-2025 season.
The Bold and the Beautiful’s one-year renewal raises concerns
News of The Bold and the Beautiful’s renewal comes after its sister soap The Young and the Restless was renewed for four years.
The show only getting a one-year renewal has sparked concern about its future. The Bold and the Beautiful is just one of the remaining three soap operas on the air. Yet, like many daytime serials, it’s come under heavy criticism.
A soap opera with the longevity of The Bold and the Beautiful has trouble writing captivating storylines. Most of the time, the producers rely on recycled plots for entertainment value, which does little to please viewers.
Despite the criticism, the show remains steady at the #2 spot in the ratings although there has been a decrease in viewership in recent years. The series might be losing popularity in the US, it’s famous in the international markets.
However, that might not be enough to save it.
Is The Bold and the Beautiful in danger of being cancelled?
With the string of soap opera cancellatons in recent years, it’d be a huge blow to lose The Bold and the Beautiful.
Yet, given the current state of the show, many viewers might not care.
Fans have continuously called out the show’s executive producer Brad Bell for his creative choices. Instead of listening to the feedback, Bell continues to write and producer things the way he wants to.
Although CBS has allowed Bell free reign when it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, they might finally be putting their foot down. The one-year reneweal could be a wake-up call for the show to make improvements.
If Bell doesn’t fix things, then The Bold and the Beautiful might be without a home next year.
