Great news for fans of The Young and Restless. This cherished daytime drama is set to continue for an additional four years.

Deadline has confirmed that CBS has extended the show’s run through the 2027-28 season.

The four-year renewal came as a shock to many fans. Although The Young and the Restless remains the #1 soap opera in daytime television, recently it’s garnered negativity for its writing.

Josh Griffith is currently the showrunner for The Young and the Restless

Like all soap operas, The Young and the Restless has undergone changes in the creative regime. Currently, Josh Griffith serves as the show’s executive producer and head writer.

Griffith has worked with the show on and off since 2006. When he returned in 2018, he became the showrunner, a move that didn’t sit well with fans.

Grittith’s writing has been criticized by fans. From storylines dragging too long to bias to certain characters to plots with no payoffs; it’s no wonder viewers aren’t happy.

There hasn’t been much excitement on the show except for the Claire and Jordan storyline. The other stories revolve around the business drama with Chancellor-Winters or Tucker and Ashley’s marital problems.

The plots are so confusing, it’s hard for viewers to keep track of what’s happening.

Aside from lackadaisical writing, Griffith isn’t giving proper screen time to other characters. Tucker and Audra are featured every day, yet a popular heroine like Sharon Newman can’t get her own storyline.

The Young and the Restless is overdue for a regime change

CBS renewing The Young and the Restless shows it has faith in its most popular soap opera. But if they want to help the show continue its success, they need to make some changes.

The soap opera is love overdue for a regime change. Griffith has been at the helm for five years and it’s time someone else takes over.

Although the show still remains #1 in the ratings, fans have voiced their displeasure about Griffith’s writing on social media. A petition has even circulated asking for CBS to fire the showrunner.

Ultimately, the decision comes down to the network executives. Although they might be pleased with Griffith, many can’t take another four years of him in charge.

The future of The Young and the Restless is in their hands, and one can hope this leads to better creative direction.
